AnyPS5 Project Aims to Run PlayStation 5 Games on PC Without Emulation

AnyPS5, an open-source project, claims it can run PlayStation 5 games directly on PC without any need for emulation. According to the project's official GitHub page, the tool is described as a porting utility that automatically converts executables into Linux and Windows formats.

The fact that the PS5 is powered by AMD Zen 2 hardware and uses the x86-64 architecture allows AnyPS5 to function as a compatibility and translation layer similar to Proton or Wine. The project takes original PS5 executables and converts them into Windows and Linux formats while recompiling shaders into the SPIR-V format for Vulkan.

This approach, which avoids emulation entirely, is said to have the potential to deliver a smoother experience by eliminating certain computational overheads. The emergence of the project is being viewed as part of major developments in the PlayStation 5 emulation space, following Sony's confirmation of plans to end PC ports for its first-party, story-driven single-player games.
