The New York Times has published its list of the "100 Best TV Shows of the 21st Century," covering series that premiered in 2000 or later. According to the newspaper, the ranking was determined by votes from more than 500 people, including actors, show creators, and critics. Shows like The Sopranos, which premiered in 1999, were excluded because they don't count as 21st-century series.

Breaking Bad, The Wire, and Mad Men Lead the Pack
AMC's Breaking Bad takes the top spot. Created by Vince Gilligan and starring Bryan Cranston, the crime drama follows a high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with advanced lung cancer and starts producing drugs.
HBO Max's The Wire comes in second. The series stands out for examining Baltimore's institutions and drug trade through different facets of the city — policing, the criminal underworld, business, politics, the law, and journalism.
Third place goes to Mad Men, which delves into the world of advertising.
