Warner Bros. has shared the first official set images from The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which hits theaters in 2027, as part of Hobbit Day. The images highlight the Shire's atmosphere, director Andy Serkis at work, and a shot of a Frodo figure seen from behind in front of Bag End.
Warner Bros. has released the first official images from the new Lord of the Rings film, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which is set to hit theaters in 2027. According to the studio, the images were published on Warner Bros.' TikTok account as part of Hobbit Day celebrations. The shots from the set offer a limited but tantalizing glimpse of what the film will look like.

The selection of 10 photos transports viewers straight to the green valleys of the Shire. Alongside the Shire's iconic atmosphere, the images also capture the intense work happening behind the camera. Director Andy Serkis can be seen at work between takes, and the Hobbit extras newly joining the cast also appear in the shots.
The Frodo shot in front of Bag End
Among the images shared from the set, the most striking is one featuring a character standing in front of Bag End's famous green door. It has not yet been officially confirmed whether the character, whose face is turned toward the door and who is photographed from behind, is played by Elijah Wood. The image shows only the character's iconic cloak and their back.

Old and new cast together
The film brings together both the old and new generations of the cast. Andy Serkis (Gollum) and Ian McKellen (Gandalf) from the trilogy are part of the project. Elijah Wood is also likely to appear as Frodo. Lee Pace, known from The Hobbit trilogy, is in the cast as the Elven King Thranduil.
The most notable change in the cast is that Jamie Dornan is taking on the role of Aragorn instead of Viggo Mortensen. Among the new additions to the cast are Anya Taylor-Joy (Seren), Leo Woodall (Halvard), and Kate Winslet (Marigol).

Filming continues, release date set
Filming, which began in July, is continuing at full speed. The film will arrive in theaters on December 17, 2027.
