The seamless co-op mod for Dark Souls 2 has been released in alpha. The mod allows players to play through the entire game from start to finish with up to five friends.
A new addition has been made to the multiplayer mods created for FromSoftware games. The seamless co-op mod for Dark Souls 2 has finally arrived for players. Mod developer Yui, who previously created similar and highly popular mods for Elden Ring, Nightreign, and the original Dark Souls, had been working on this latest project for over a year.
In the description on the mod's Nexus Mods page, the developer stated: "Simply put, the mod allows you to play through the entire game with your friends without any restrictions. This means it is theoretically possible to complete the game from the tutorial to the final boss in a single co-op session."
You can bring up to five friends along on this journey. Since game progression and NPC dialogues are synchronized, everyone feels like they are in the same world. The barriers that normally separate co-op areas have also been removed. If any member of your team dies, they are sent back to their last bonfire, while the others continue as normal until the battle ends.
Yui has also added some additional quality-of-life and balance adjustments to the mod. These include a "streamlined connection system" that makes it easier to join sessions and an option to change difficulty scaling. The developer notes that playing with friends "arguably makes the game much easier." However, they add that this is not the mod's main purpose, and that the mod is designed to be "fun-focused rather than difficulty-reducing."
As of now, the mod is still in alpha, and bugs reported by early users are said to be fixed. To run the mod, Dark Souls 2 must be updated to version 1.03 of the Scholar of the First Sin edition, and the mod must be downloaded from Nexus Mods or GitHub. After entering the game, the mod will provide a set of items to help organize online sessions.
