Meta has announced it will build a new submarine cable between the US and France with a capacity of 1 petabit. The cable, named Petal, will offer twice the speed of Meta's existing Anjana system.

Meta to Build 1 Petabit Submarine Cable Between US and France

Meta has announced plans to build and deploy a new submarine cable between France and the US with a data transmission capacity of 1 petabit per second (1 Pbps). This capacity is equivalent to 1,000 terabits per second.

The new cable will be the most advanced submarine cable of its length and will surpass Meta's existing Anjana cable system, which has a capacity of 0.5 Pbps.

Anjana, stretching from Spain to the US with a total length of 7,122 kilometers, offers speeds of 480 Tbps thanks to its 24 fiber pairs. Petal, on the other hand, aims to achieve 1 Pbps over transatlantic distances using a dual-core fiber-based solution with 48 fiber pairs, each consisting of 24 pairs.
